This renovation project brings a beautiful listed mill house into the 21st Century for luxury, modern family living. Collaborating with our clients on their vision, we developed a sympathetic yet modern design blending old with new, using minimal glazing, wood, local brick and stone.

Working with the local conservation team, we designed a sensitive glazed extension that introduces an open plan kitchen and dining space. A glass link allows the new space to integrate seamlessly with the older part of the house, retaining the venerable charm and character in the renovated study, entrance hall, wine room and boot room.

Heritage properties often have single-skinned walls that are finished in lime-based products to enable the building to breathe and prevent damp. Throughout the restoration, we used specialist paint in soft neutrals set against the restored beams. The resulting design is full of character and charm, while providing a modern and elegant home for generations to come.

Light-filled design.

This contemporary renovation of a Grade II listed former mill house elegantly blends old and new. The HollandGreen Interior Design team worked closely with the client to ensure each space established its own distinct personality, while maintaining a coherent flow throughout.

Throughout the design, we used specialist paint in soft neutrals set against the carefully restored beams for a minimal but faithful restoration of the family home. Clean white lines dominate the new kitchen and dining area, with spot lights over the copper-top island that help maximise the sense of space.

Listed heritage country home boot room interior design

Bold colours inject vibrant character and depth into the utility rooms adjoining the kitchen. In collaboration with joinery specialist Mark Taylor Design, deep blue cabinetry conceals appliances and storage spaces in the boot room, while exposed timber ceiling beams add a warm, rustic aesthetic throughout the house.
