Honeywell Equestrian Barn

/ Cotswolds

The Timeless Design of an Equine Centre on a Country Estate.

Honeywell Equestrian Barn is the refurbishment of a traditional stable courtyard and the expansion of the equine facilities to include an American-style stable barn, outdoor riding arena/menage, turn out paddocks, lunging pens and horse walkers.  The design demonstrates the evolution of the country estate developing the traditional stable block adjacent to the large Georgian style manor house.

The stables are arranged in a rectangular plan form, with stable stalls looking into an attractive central courtyard. The design of the courtyard building takes its cue from the manor house with simple yet attractive Georgian detailing such as an ornamental clock tower and arched gated entrances.

The new stable building will be distinctly different in its architectural design which nonetheless respects the hierarchy of the house and original stable building, designed to maximise natural daylight and ensure adequate ventilation to the stalls. The external materials include a stone plinth, timber cladding and a metal sheet roof, responding to the original materials of the estate and the rural setting.

On the interior design, we have blended classic English elements such as the exposed beams and brickwork, with American barn features including wide, open spaces and natural wood finishes giving a warm, elegant, and functional interior. We will incorporate traditional touches such as wrought iron fixtures, leather accents, and vintage equestrian artwork, while adding practicality with built-in cabinetry, saddle racks, and ample seating areas for a refined yet functional space. A neutral, earthy colour palette with tones of deep greens, browns, and burgundies will complement the natural materials of oak, leather, and stone to evoke a timeless and sophisticated aesthetic.

The equestrian centre will incorporate distinct zones for different activities, including arenas for riding and training, stabling areas, tack rooms, and storage spaces. Clear pathways are established to facilitate smooth movement of horses, riders, and staff, minimising the risk of accidents, and ensuring efficient operations. The design considers natural lighting, climate control, and access to fresh water essential to maintaining a healthy and stress-free environment for the horses.

We look forward to sharing more as the design and construction progresses.
