HollandGreen Wins Two Gold APL Awards

We are proud to share that two of our Landscape Design projects have won Gold at the prestigious APL Awards this March. The Archers Farmhouse Garden won gold in the Biodiversity & Sustainability category, while the Rycote Walled Garden was an award winner for Designer of the Year (Over £75k). These awards are a testament to our dedication to creating landscapes that balance beauty and sustainability, and are designed to leave a lasting impact.

Archers Farmhouse Garden

Gold APL Award for Biodiversity & Sustainability

The Archers Farmhouse Garden is a thoughtful response to its natural surroundings, designed with a particular focus on accessibility and sustainability.

A timber bridge was introduced to provide access from the formal garden across the brook, opening up the woodland to the client and visitors alike. Repurposed wood from felled trees was used for pathways, stairs, and handrails – blending sustainably sourced materials with practical functionality, to ensure easy and safe movement throughout the garden.

A beautifully balanced stone sculpture invites you to explore further into the woodland, whilst locally sourced boulders line the brook – uniting the manicured garden with the wilder woodlands.

The planting scheme enhances the existing landscape, with native species and naturalised wildflowers added to the woodland edge meadow. The planting choices add pops of colour while supporting local biodiversity, and creating a thriving ecosystem to encourage pollinators and bees.

At the heart of the woodland we introduced a charming shepherd’s hut and fire pit area – offering a tranquil and accessible retreat, designed for complete immersion in nature.

This project exemplifies how sustainability and accessibility can coexist harmoniously – a fitting award winner in the Biodiversity & Sustainability category.

Rycote Walled Garden

Gold APL Award for Designer of the Year (Over £75k)

The Rycote Walled Garden is a stunning showcase of design excellence, expertly combining considered materials, user functionality and timeless elegance.

A contemporary car gallery sits at the heart of the design, seamlessly integrated with an elegant walled garden that offers a series of distinct spaces – from tranquil seating areas to al fresco dining and a modern outdoor kitchen.

The materials in the design were carefully selected to complement the architectural language of the property, with paddlestone walls helping to define the space and corten steel elements adding a contemporary touch.

The bespoke water feature creates a hallmark within the garden, using strong architectural lines to draw the eye from inside to the view outside and providing a sense of fun as one steps over the rill to access a manicured lawn area.

Thoughtfully positioned to capture views of the sleek car gallery and corten steel water rill and reflection pool, each area is enhanced by the gentle sound of water and dynamic reflections of the surrounding landscape and sky.

At the heart of the garden, an Armillary Sphere sculpture from David Harber creates a timeless and sophisticated focal point.

The planting scheme creates a sense of flow and cohesion throughout the space, with layers of soft planting providing colour, form and texture throughout the seasons. The pleached Beech trees give a sense of structure and height, and echo the clean, bold lines of the contemporary architecture of the car gallery.

From the detailed design work to the final installation, this project exemplifies the quality and creativity that defines HollandGreen’s approach to landscape design.
