Decorate Your Home This Christmas, Nordic Style.

Our Holland Green interiors team share their favourite ways to bring some extra magic and joy to our homes this year, Nordic style. There is something special about this time of year; our loved ones coming together to share memorable moments, creating new traditions and celebrating old ones. Making our home festive, welcoming and cosy for all our family and friends to enjoy is at the heart of the Christmas period, and this year our Interior Design team love the simplicity and elegance of Nordic Christmas décor style. The key to achieve this festive look include a simple colour palette with neutral tones, natural elements, minimalist decor, a mix of textures and soft, warm lighting.

Christmas Gifts

Elevating the ordinary and taking care with the small details is an integral part of Nordic design. Wrap your presents with recycled brown paper or cloth, add a touch of colour through a simple gift tag or string, and finish it off with a sprig of rosemary or holly to create a thoughtful and beautifully presented gift.

Dining Table Details

Nordic design celebrates bringing the outdoors in, and your Christmas dining table is no exception. A rustic wooden table, a white linen table runner and napkins, and layered porcelain plates are the perfect base to your table. Gold cutlery adds a nice touch. Explore outdoors and gather some beautifully shaped twigs, pine cones and greenery – a lovely sustainable alternative to add interest to your table. Layer your lighting with some delicate tea lights and tall candlesticks for a cosy and peaceful ambiance. We love this beautiful table setting from Nordic Nest.

Fireplace Focus

Creating a decorative focal point around your fireplace grounds your living room space making it feel inviting. The key is to keep the décor simple, with two or three earthy colour tones – when it comes to Nordic design, less is often more. For the optimal Christmas atmosphere our team suggest adding greenery or a simple green wreath over the mantlepiece, a string of wooden beads, some monochromatic textured stockings, a few small white minimalist tree ornaments such as White ribbed ceramic Christmas tree from Hudson Home and a rustic basket full of logs. Create some soft lighting with a group of candles, lanterns or a string of lights surrounded by some foliage from the garden.

A Charming Entryway

The hallway is the first space you and your guests step into and you want to get a sense of the festive feeling as soon as you enter the home. A great way to achieve this is by adding a rustic bench or wooden stool, layer with a fur throw for some soft texture. Add a couple of decorative stockings, a woven twig wreath, or add a pair of vintage ice skates to your coat rack for an element of surprise and interest for your guests. If you have a window ledge or console table, this is the perfect spot to add a large festive scented candle and some stylish Christmas prints in a frame – we love ‘A Nordic Christmas at Chatsworth’ by Lucy Loveheart.

Unique Advent Calendar

Advent calendars are a wonderful way to countdown the days until Christmas and in Nordic tradition, there is no exception. Reusable advent calendars are fun, sustainable and you can personalise it; our HG interiors team love the ‘Fabric Advent Calendar from Sophie Allport’ – fill each pocket with your own surprises and treats, that both children and adults can enjoy.
