Restoration of a Medieval Monastery
The architecture team at HollandGreen are excited to be working on the sympathetic restoration of a Grade I listed building, specifically a monastery – a project that will celebrate the rich history and character of the building, with some sensitive additions to bring it into the 21st century for modern family living.
Built during the reign of Edward III, the monastery has passed between the hands of several prominent families and figures and has undergone multiple additions and renovations throughout the years, including a rather unsympathetic extension.
After returning from several years overseas, the client is now looking to renovate what was his childhood home, to make the most of the beautiful period features and resolve several serious structural issues that are currently causing damage to the property.

While still in the early exploratory stages of the project, the proposed design will provide a contemporary twist to the house – in addition to several subtle modern interventions, such as the upgrading of the electrics and plumbing – to create a comfortable and characterful home that complements its listed surrounds.
